Athlete Leadership Council

Athletes seek new challenges and new ways to pay forward their experiences and lessons. Our leadership programs provide an outlet for that energy.

Athletes seek new challenges and new ways to pay forward their experiences and lessons. Our leadership programs provide an outlet for that energy.

The Special Olympics New York Athlete Leadership Council (ALC) is a recognized group of Special Olympics New York athlete leaders who meet on a regular basis to:

  • Provide feedback on ideas/policies that would significantly affect Special Olympics New York athletes,
  • Present ideas to Special Olympics New York Leadership, and
  • Promote Athlete Leadership throughout New York and the entire Special Olympics community.

Athlete Leaders are the “faces & voices” of Special Olympics New York for their fellow athletes, coaches and volunteers, and the general public. They take on roles within the organization such as being a head or assistant coach, board member, committee member, and/or assist with marketing and fundraising efforts, deliver speeches and presentations, talk to the media and more.
