31 Runners Complete TCS New York City Marathon for Team Special Olympics New York

More Than $130,000 Raised for Athletes Throughout the State

New York City, NY – For many, a marathon is a lifetime achievement. For the 31 individuals who ran in support of the athletes of Special Olympics New York last week, it meant even more.

On Sunday, November 2, Team Special Olympics NY raised more than $130,000 for athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout New York State. The squad included Special Olympics NY athletes, coaches, volunteers, and NYC Leadership Council members, along with their dedicated partners in law enforcement. All 31 runners finished the race.

A particularly inspiring moment came for Jordan Mack, a Special Olympics NY athlete from Brooklyn, during mile 25 of the 26-mile race. He began to experience leg pain, and it became so intense he considered retiring before the finish—until his coach, who attended the marathon to support him, gave him the words of encouragement he needed. Jordan pushed through and finished that last mile.
