She Plays. We Rise.
Celebrating National Girls & Women in Sports Day with Special Olympics New York
On National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), we celebrate more than athletic achievement — we celebrate confidence, courage, leadership, and possibility. At Special Olympics New York, we are proud to uplift girls and women who step onto the field of play and discover just how powerful they are.
This year, our message is simple and bold: She Plays. We Rise.
Why It Matters
Sports have the power to change lives. For girls and women with intellectual disabilities, access to inclusive sports means more than competition — it means belonging. It means being seen, supported, and celebrated. Through sports, athletes build self-confidence, form lifelong friendships, and learn that their voice and leadership matter both on and off the field.
When she plays, she challenges stereotypes.
When she plays, she builds strength and independence.
When she plays, we all rise together.
Empowering Athletes at Every Level
From first-time competitors to seasoned leaders, Special Olympics New York provides opportunities for girls and women to shine as athletes, teammates, coaches, officials, and mentors. These women aren’t just participating — they’re leading, inspiring, and paving the way for future generations.
Their determination fuels our movement. Their victories — big and small — remind us why inclusion in sports matters.
💙 Champion her by encouraging girls and women to participate in sports.
💙 Champion her by sharing their stories and cheering them on.
💙 Champion her by supporting inclusive opportunities that empower every athlete to succeed.
When we champion her, we champion confidence, equality, and a future where every girl and woman knows she belongs.
