Glens Falls to Host 2025 Special Olympics New York State Fall Games October 17 & 18
400 Volunteer Jobs Available to Support 900 Athletes Going for the Gold
Glens Falls, NY – Special Olympics New York and the Glens Falls community today announced that the 2025 State Fall Games will be held in and around the city October 17 and 18. The Games will bring nearly 900 athletes and coaches to the Capital Region from across New York.
The organization seeks to fill 400 volunteer jobs, which include event setup and breakdown, registration, scorekeepers, timers, photographers, golf caddies, and more. No experience is necessary.

State Fall Games will kick off with a signature Opening Ceremonies Friday evening in City Park. Competition will take place all day on Saturday in seven sports: Bocce, cross-country running, cycling, golf, equestrian, soccer, and softball. The event will also include area elementary school students participating in the Special Olympics Young Athletes program, a meeting of the statewide Athlete Leadership Council, and free health screenings for competitors.
Special Olympics New York President & CEO Stacey Hengsterman and Glens Falls Mayor Bill Collins joined local athletes at a press conference this morning, where they issued a call for volunteers to support the Games.
“Each year, our athletes return to Glens Falls excited to compete, connect with old friends, and feel the incredible energy from local fans,” said Hengsterman. “Volunteering at State Fall Games in Glens Falls is an experience you won’t forget!”
“Special Olympics athletes are among the most inspiring individuals you’ll ever meet,” said Mayor Collins. “Their dedication and spirit truly shine, and I urge everyone in Glens Falls to volunteer and witness firsthand the incredible impact these Games have on our community.”
“I can’t wait to get back out on the golf course this year and go for the gold,” said Capital Region Athlete Ed Lawless, who shared his personal story at today’s press conference. “Special Olympics State Fall Games is an opportunity like no other for me and my fellow athletes. Area venues hosting State Fall Games are as follows: Glens Falls City Park (Opening and Closing Ceremonies), Adirondack Sports Complex (bocce), Cole’s Woods (cross-country running), Warren County Municipal Center (cycling), Skidmore College (equestrian), Brookhaven Golf Course (golf), and Morse Athletic Complex (soccer and softball).
