Join the Movement: Regional Storyteller (Part-Time)
Special Olympics New York Office of External Relations
$18/hour; 5–10 hours per week
Are you passionate about storytelling, social media, and making a real impact? Do you believe in the power of inclusion and sport to change lives? Then we want you on our team.
Special Olympics New York is looking for energetic, creative, and ambitious individuals to become our next Regional Storytellers. This is more than a part-time job — it’s an opportunity to amplify the voices of our athletes, coaches, and volunteers while also supporting the fundraising events in your region that make it possible for people with intellectual disabilities to discover the champion within.
As a Regional Storyteller, you’ll travel to local events, meet incredible people, and bring their inspiring journeys to life across our digital platforms — reaching an audience of hundreds of thousands through social media, e-newsletters, our website, and the press.
You’ll also get a front-row seat to the action at our State Games three times per year, with travel expenses covered by Special Olympics New York.
What You’ll Do
• Cover the Action: Attend local competitions and fundraising events (typically nights & weekends) to capture unforgettable moments.
• Create & Share: Develop engaging social media content in real time across platforms like Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and TikTok.
• Pitch Compelling Stories: Write press releases and web features that showcase the spirit of your local community, and pitch them to media outlets.
• Analyze & Optimize: Use engagement data to make our storytelling even more effective and far-reaching.
• Collaborate: Work closely with regional staff to make sure each story shines.
• Become an Expert: Complete online training to become a certified Special Olympics New York volunteer.
Who You Are
• A natural communicator with excellent writing and interpersonal skills
• A self-starter who thrives working independently (with regular remote check-ins)
• A social media enthusiast who knows a good story when they see it and has the ability to share it and inspire audience engagement on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and TikTok
• Someone with experience creating content for nonprofits, agencies, or brands (preferred)
Why This Role Rocks
• Work with a mission that matters. Special Olympics New York changes lives and inspires inclusion
• Build a portfolio of professional content working with one of the most respected brands in the country
• Uplift your community by sharing its stories with a statewide audience
• Join a supportive, passionate team that’s making a difference one story at a time
