Beyond her athletic achievements, Janissa has been a vocal advocate for inclusivity in sports and beyond. She participated in the Special Olympics New York weightlifting competition at Ithaca College as part of “Team American Muscle,” showcasing her strength and determination alongside her peers.

Janissa’s passions extend beyond the athletic arena. She is a passionate advocate for inclusive fashion and took part in the “Be Brave” initiative, a collaboration between Special Olympics and Parsons School of Design. In 2021, she modeled adaptive athletic wear during New York Fashion Week, demonstrating how inclusivity and style can coexist. Reflecting on the experience, she said, “It feels like someone finally understands the importance of inclusion.” Through this work, Janissa inspires others to embrace differences and pursue their passions boldly.

Janissa embodies the spirit of the Special Olympics oath: “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” Whether on the court, lifting weights, or walking the runway, she continues to show courage, determination, and joy, inspiring fellow athletes and her community.

“It feels like someone finally understands the importance of inclusion.”
