Athlete Corner: Jordan Mack

Hailing from Brownsville, Brooklyn, Jordan Mack has been a star in our organization for years.

He competes with BK XC (that’s Brooklyn Cross Country) and has become a fixture at our State Fall Games in Glens Falls, even when he’s not competing. After winning gold in 2022, for example, Jordan returned the following year to cheer for his friends, even though he wasn’t running himself. That’s the kind of teammate he is.

And it’s not just local athletes Jordan advocates for: It’s athletes all over the state, too. Last November, for example, he ran the New York City Marathon for the first time, just to raise funds for his fellow athletes. During mile 25 of the 26-mile race, Jordan experienced leg pain, and it became so intense he considered retiring before the finish—until his coach, who attended the marathon to support him, gave him the words of encouragement he needed. He pushed through to finish that last mile.

Jordan also has the distinction of being our very first Athlete of the Month recipient in November 2023. And how did he earn that honor? Here’s how his coach, Kaitlin Santiago, put it:

“Jordan’s character and team spirit shines through every time the BK XC team gets together. With two first-time cross-country runners on the team, he’s a constant source of encouragement, making sure they know their best is awesome. Jordan also exhibits fantastic leadership skills as well as being a strong athlete in both character and sport. He always gives his all when running and I have had such a great time as his coach.”

Amazing work, Jordan! We know you’ll achieve so much more in the years to come.
