Capital Region Winter Classic Seeks Volunteers for February 1 Event at West Mountain

Queensbury, NY — Special Olympics New York is seeking volunteers to support the Capital Region Winter Classic, taking place Saturday, February 1, at West Mountain. Volunteers are needed for all available shifts, with a special need for Snowshoe and Alpine Skiing support.

This annual winter competition brings together Special Olympics athletes from across the Capital Region to compete in alpine skiing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Volunteers play a critical role in ensuring a safe, inclusive, and successful event.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

  • Snowshoe / Cross-Country Skiing Support (high need)
  • Alpine Skiing Course Support
    Alpine volunteers are encouraged to bring their skis, as some positions will require skiing uphill to monitor gates as athletes move through the course. Lift passes will be provided to Alpine volunteers.
  • Event Set-Up and Registration

Event Day Schedule

  • 9:00–10:00 a.m. – Registration
  • 9:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. – Healthy Athletes & Performance Stations
  • 10:00 a.m. – Coaches Meeting (All Events)
  • 10:30 a.m. – Opening Ceremonies
  • 11:00 a.m. – Alpine Athletes Report / Snowshoe & XC Skiing Competition Begins
  • 12:00 p.m. – Initial Alpine Divisioning Runs
  • Alpine Course Inspection – Time to be announced

Age 13-17?
You will be asked to have a parent/guardian sign our Under 18 form. Click on the “My Checklist” button to complete this.
Volunteer Zone
From there, you should receive a confirmation that you signed up for the event. More information and final details will be provided in an email as we get closer to the event.
