COVID-19 Vaccine Requirements

Special Olympics New York requires staff and visitors to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for entry into its headquarters building and regional offices. This requirement went into effect Dec. 13, 2021, per New York State Guidance.

Effective Jan. 1, 2022, Special Olympics New York also requires proof of vaccination for:

  • All athletes and coaches traveling outside their local region to a Special Olympics competition or event.
  • All athletes participating in high-risk sports, as determined by Special Olympics guidance and the New York State Department of Health. These are Floor Hockey (winter season), Volleyball and Basketball (summer season), and Soccer (fall season).
  • All sporting event volunteers.
  • All athletes or coaches participating in a sports training and competition where vaccinations are required by local mandate.

Unified and school-based athletes participating in a school setting will continue to follow school guidance, unless traveling to a Special Olympics event outside of their local region.
