Virtual Health & Wellness Forum – Special Olympics New York Athlete Health for Adults

The Special Olympics New York Virtual Health & Wellness Forums are a space for the Special Olympics New York Community – Athletes, families, caregivers and coaches – to engage with health-focused individuals/organizations such as Healthcare Providers and Fitness Specialists. The Forums will provide information and resources related to the health of Special Olympics athletes, while also focusing on bettering access to health care, education and inclusive activities for people with intellectual disabilities. There will also be select offerings focused on the education of healthcare providers and students regarding working with people with disabilities and the mission of Special Olympics.
Forums will be presentation based with the opportunity to submit questions to the presenter. Participants are asked to register through a link provided on the Special Olympics New York Website. Recordings will be available to view after the live presentation is complete. The Virtual Health & Wellness Forums are possible thanks to the support of the Special Olympics New York Health Advisory Council.
A discussion regarding Healthy Habits for Life – Small, but important, steps to feel good and stay healthy! Athletes, Caregivers and Coaches encouraged to attend! This forum will be recorded and posted to our website for viewing after the live offering is complete.
Speaker Bio: Dr. Claire Watson is the Founding Program Director for both the Public Health and Health Science majors at St. Bonaventure University. She recently accepted a position as the Interim Dean of the DePerro School of Health Professions. Her experience as a college professor, cardiovascular rehab specialist and public health practitioner have prepared her well for her work with Special Olympics athletes, combining the research and skills from clinical and preventive fields. Dr. Watson is a SONY Clinical Director for Health Promotion, having managed/participated in, 5 health screenings across New York State during her first year as Clinical Director. Dr. Watson is a member of the SONY Health Advisory Council, and recipient of the Special Olympics New York 2023 Golisano Health Leadership Award.
