Virtual Health & Wellness Forum – Nutrition Basics: Supporting Athletes for Realistic Change

The Special Olympics New York Virtual Health & Wellness Forums are a space for the Special Olympics New York Community – Athletes, families, caregivers and coaches – to engage with health-focused individuals/organizations such as Healthcare Providers and Fitness Specialists. The Forums will provide information and resources related to the health of Special Olympics athletes, while also focusing on bettering access to health care, education and inclusive activities for people with intellectual disabilities. There will also be select offerings focused on the education of healthcare providers and students regarding working with people with disabilities and the mission of Special Olympics.
Forums will be presentation based with the opportunity to submit questions to the presenter. Participants are asked to register through a link provided on the Special Olympics New York Website. Recordings will be available to view after the live presentation is complete. The Virtual Health & Wellness Forums are possible thanks to the support of the Special Olympics New York Health Advisory Council.
Nutrition Basics: Supporting Athletes for Realistic Change
This forum will teach attendees general concepts of supportive nutrition for athletes and how make lasting changes that are realistic for each individual. Coaches, Caregivers and Athletes encouraged to attend! This forum will be recorded and posted to our website for viewing after the live offering is complete.
Speaker Bio: Laura Malick is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist with nearly 10 years of clinical nutrition counseling experience with a focus on chronic disease prevention and management. Laura has been working with Special Olympics as a Clinical Director for Healthy Athletes since January of 2017.
